Vertigo is the term used when a patient feels as if he or the things around him are spinning. It is a sensation of movement when there is no movement. Some refer to it as dizziness, but it is much more than feeling lightheaded. It is the major symptom of conditions such as Meniere’s disease (along with tinnitus).
Up to 10% of those in the USA have vertigo before the age of 40. When one reaches 40, that statistic increases to 40%! During one recent decade, those going to the ER for vertigo made up 2.5% of visits. The exact reason for vertigo remains a mystery among researchers.
What they do know is that it generally originates when the vestibular system is not functioning properly. An interesting connection has been researched between vertigo and a misalignment in the bones of the upper vertebrae.
This may occur due to pressure from the misalignment being exerted on the brainstem, thus leading to signals being sent to and from the brain and body becoming distorted. The messages about where the body is located in its environment could be hindered.
Finding Natural Help for Vertigo
Seeking the care of an upper cervical chiropractor is a good place to begin to find help. We have been specially trained to determine the exact location of upper cervical misalignments. We then work with our patients to make the proper adjustments.
The method used is gentle and effective. It encourages the bones of the neck to realign themselves in a natural way, allowing the adjustment to last for a longer period of time. We only provide adjustments as needed. As a result, many patients have seen significant health benefits.
