Is Chiropractic a Treatment? North Lakes

Posted in Chiropractic on Jun 5, 2016

Thousands of people in Brisbane and even in North Lakes, Mango Hill, and the surrounding communities suffer from pain and from other ailments. Chiropractic has a long history of helping people with a variety of conditions and pain syndromes. From migraines, multiple sclerosis, trigeminal neuralgia, back pain, vertigo etc, there is no medical condition that has not been helped by chiropractic care.

Does that mean that all people diagnosed with a certain condition—even something like neck or back pain—get 100% well and asymptomatic with chiropractic care alone? No, and that is because chiropractic is not a treatment for anything!

If it isn’t treatment, what good is it?

It is time to reconsider the relevance and purpose of chiropractic care. Specifically, it is time to stop comparing chiropractic to medical care. If anything, upper cervical chiropractic is more akin to dentistry. The purpose of both is to promote the health and maintenance of a specific part of the body.

People are well familiar with the purpose and importance of the teeth towards our health. The question is, why is the spine important to our health? The spine is not just bones like others in the body: it is an organ necessary for supporting and protecting the brainstem and spinal cord, which transmits all life messages through the body.

In addition, movements of the spine provide essential feedback and information to the brain, which is required for proper emotional regulation and thinking. So without the spine functioning and moving properly, we cannot express any brain function, that is, life as we should. This brings me to the point that chiropractic is an approach to keep the body as functional and healthy as possible. It is not to fix or cure any ailment, it is to ensure that this spine and spinal cord are working properly—that’s it!
