How is Upper Cervical Care Different?

Let me put it this way: if a general chiropractor is like a general dentist, an upper cervical chiropractor is like an orthodontist. The advanced training and level of detail that upper cervical chiropractors take to identify and correct problems with the upper neck are unlike anything else in healthcare today.

An Upper Cervical adjustment significantly different from what most people expect for a routine chiropractic adjustment.

Foremost, there is no "spinal manipulation." Our goal is not to stretch your neck so that we can “set the bone back in place.” Our goal is to adjust your neck within its normal range of motion with your head in a neutral position where there is no twist or “crack” at all!

The same way that there are different styles of martial arts, there are actually seven major forms of Upper Cervical Specific Care:

  • Palmer Knee Chest Specific Technique
  • Palmer Toggle Recoil Technique
  • Blair Torque Recoil Specific Technique

  • Grostic/Orthospinology Technique
  • Atlas Orthogonal (AO) Technique
  • NUCCA Technique
  • Quantum Spinal Mechanics (QSM3)

At present and without ego, I am the only upper cervical chiropractor in Australia who has trained in all seven methods and who has multiple certifications: primary certification with Atlas Orthogonal and advanced certification with Blair technique).

The advantage is that I can adopt principles from multiple different approaches to find the solution that works best for you. For the past 7 years, my preferred approach is the Blair Upper Cervical technique due to its specificity and ability to address subluxations not just at C1 and C2, but into the lower neck as well.
